Manchester….so much to answer for

Zdravo Tesla Girls

Nearly all of your hard-working undergraduate team are in Zagreb, Croatia, for the annual meeting of the Association for Dental Education in Europe (ADEE). The theme of this years meeting is Career Development in Dental Education. We have been hard at work attending lectures and workshops and networking with colleagues from the other dental schools across Europe and beyond.

Those who did physics at school will be familiar with the measurement of magnetic flux density, the Tesla. Nikola Tesla, a Serb, is honoured in Zagreb. Also known to many who remember the 1980s group Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD) and their song, Tesla Girls (watch it here).

And here he is again with two other great scientists!

Our very own Ant and Dev relaxing after a hard day of lectures.

Our own student president, Ciaran doing his best for international relations.

Professor O’Brien talking to Professor Walmsley from Birmingham. Looking a little anxious before his presentation.

Seeing double – Richard Oliver “the cutter” with the other Richard Oliver “the wire”, professor of Dental Education and an orthodontist from Cardiff.

Our very own patron saint, St George after slaying the dragon in the old town of Zagreb.

On Friday we visited the dental school of Zagreb which was very interesting. Small, well equipped and cleaner than most hospitals in the UK.

The Dean of the Dental School welcomes us.

A nice little sculpture in the garden.

The professor of prevention and child dental health in his clinic.

The clinical skills classroom. Not unlike ours before it was upgraded last year!

How would you fancy doing endodontic treatment standing up?

Now that’s a good idea, a dental chair in your office…I’ll have to have a word with the NHS managers.

The professor of orthodontics.

No single use endodontic files here!

Professor Walmsley, Professor Kay (Dean of Peninsula), Ms Theaker and Professor Devlin.

Did you know Dr Grey does a bit of bird-spotting… ask him about his experiences in Zagreb.

And on the subject of Dr Grey, his favourite song by Robbie Williams, altogether now, “And through it all…..” Angels outside the cathedral in Zagreb. As you can see the weather was awful.
